Information and System Security Computer security is important for all user and corporations it provides them with confidence knowing their information is protected. There are a few things to worry about when it comes to your computer’s security and your information. When thinking about security we must take a personal approach and determine if our personal information is of value. Decide how it could affect an individual or corporation if their information is stolen. In this assignment we will focus the effects of phishing, computer viruses and they affect individuals or organizations.
Phishing
When referring to the term phishing let’s take a moment and thing about fishing. Fishing is a sport where you sit on a bank side or on a boat and cast a reel into the water. This is done with the intent to lure in fish using bate so they may bite your hook. Once they bite, he bates in most case they will become hooked, and you will then land your catch.
When referring to phishing it is similar bit it is done using a computer and the bate comes in the form of an email. Phishing is then name used to represent a malicious practice and it’s when an attacker sends millions or billions of emails trying to convince someone to, they’re from a legitimate source. The attacks can be referred to as flood attacks or flood DDoS attacks. Emails that are sent may provide you with account names, mailing addresses and other information associated with other accounts. In most cause the accounts may attempt to convince you that something is wrong with your account or of some kind or promotion. This is an attempt to lure you into click the link that will direct you to a website that request your credentials, where your information will be stolen.
You can avoid phishing attacks by looking for grammar errors in the emails and avoiding clicking on links. You should also consider hovering over the link to see if the URL is from the company or person who sent the email. You should also consider disabling automatic images to prevent the sender from knowing if you opened the message. I highly recommend filtering your emails and looking work warnings. The junk box or spam does a great job filtering out mail that maybe malicious and or phishing mail.
Computer Viruses
We will not focus on computer viruses and how they can affect your computer’s ability to work properly. Computer viruses typically come from other files or mail that are sent over networks but can come from free software downloaded from the internet. They are small programs written to spread from one computer to another by hiding within a program. The programs can corrupt the computers data, wiping a computer clean and hold your information ransom. Ransome where is when a virus is attached to a person or organization computer system, and it holds the information captured until a fee is pay for its release. You can protect your or an organizations computer system by not downloaded free software. You could also purchase a virus protector software that will scan for viruses or install a firewall. There are many other types of viruses we must be aware of that can affect a computer system.
